Kinoko’s loyal companions are those starsprites who join him on his travels through the Milky Way Galaxy.

Unlike the multitude of starsprites featured in Star Heretic, these canonical starsprites appear more often in illustrations and comics. They are recurring characters in Kinoko’s adventures, and each have their own defined personalities, motivations, and beliefs. Otherwise, they still serve largely the same purpose as their Star Heretic counterparts, in terms of how they lend Kinoko their powers and look to him for leadership and companionship.

Current starsprite companions

These are the current recurring starsprites in Kinoko’s adventuring party.

Sunny

Sunny is the adventure-loving thrill-seeker of the party; a restless daredevil with a wild spirit. They share many traits with Kinoko, often acting first and thinking later, charging into dangerous situations with fearless energy. Sunny has a soft spot for an underdog like Kinoko, and is always the first to rush to help their master in need. Their rainbow scarf is likely inspired by Kinoko, a symbol of their strong bond and loyalty. They sometimes like to play tricks on other aliens.

Cinder

Cinder is the ‘big sibling’ of the group, a kind and supportive presence who always offers comfort and guidance. They are gentle and nurturing to the younger starsprites in the party. They have a soothing way of calming those around them, but they’re also strong-willed and unafraid to speak their mind, often leading to clashes with Flare. Even in disagreement, though, their bond is built on mutual respect and care. Cinder’s warmth and steadfast support makes them a pillar of the group, always ready to lift others up and protect them in their own, quiet way.

Cupid

Cupid is the bubbly, spotlight-loving member of the party. They get flustered and jealous whenever the other starsprites recieve affection from the Star Heretic himself, Kinoko – mostly because they have the biggest crush on him! Cupid loves being near him, always finding excuses to stay close and soak up his attention. They can be a little pouty and quick to huff when others steal the spotlight, but underneath it all, they’re hopelessly devoted. No matter what, Cupid will always stand by Kinoko’s side and protect him with all their heart.

Flare

Flare is the oldest and wisest of the group. They have a serious nature and a authority that’s always respected. They’re emotionally guarded, but fiercely protective, always keeping a watchful eye on the starsprites, and more importantly, Kinoko. Quick to anger when their starsprites aren’t taking their duties seriously, or are threatened, they are seen as Kinoko’s ‘second-in-command’ thanks to their strength, experience, and unwavering loyalty. Beneath their tough exterior, they care deeply, and will go to great lengths to make sure everyone is safe and supported.

Twinkle

Twinkle is the baby of the group, sweet and clingy with the other starsprites, and especially with Kinoko. They love to stay close to him, and fall asleep only when he sings them their favourite lullaby. They are still too young to control their powers, and this often leads to unpredictable mischief. They are easily frightened, and often dash back to Kinoko, seeking his protection. Twinkle loves toys, and spends hours happily playing with them. Their pure bond with Kinoko brings a hope and joy into the Star Heretic’s life like no other, similar to that shared between a parent and their child.

Comet

Comet is laid back, cheeky, and always up to something. A mischevious prankster, they love disappearing just to mess with others, especially their Star Guardian. They love to go fast, always trying to outdo the other starsprites. They can also be a little lazy, and have a tendency to purposely disregard Kinoko’s commands purely to get under his skin. They are bold, rebellious, and full of attitude, and even Kinoko, the Star Heretic himself, has a hard time keeping them in control. One way or another, Comet keeps everyone on their toes. That’s not to say Comet doesn’t care about Kinoko – they just like to have a little bit of fun too.

Ember

Ember is a happy-go-lucky starsprite with a heart of gold, always eager to brighten the mood of those around them. They may not be the smartest of the group, but they more than make up for it with their friendliness, and their boundless energy. They are sociable, emotionally-open, and quick to get excited over even the smallest things. They’re not the brightest tool in the shed, but their naivety and tendency to get easily distracted only add to their charm, making them a playful little ball of fire.

Aurora

Aurora is the quietest and most mysterious of the party, with a gentle, dreamy, and particularly whimsical presence. Elusive by nature, they often prefer to lounge around or nap, cuddled up with their favourite stuffed animals, drifting through their own world of thoughts and imagination. Despite their their calm and relaxed demeanor, Aurora is fiercely loyal to Kinoko, and will not hesitate to step in and help when it matters most. They have a soft, enchanting way of telling stories to the other starsprites, sparking wonder and curiosity wherever they go. Aurora has a special way of bringing a sense of calm to the party.

Former starsprite companions

Starsprites are not immortal. At any point in the story, they can face down danger and even make sacrifices that can lead to their deaths. When it matters most, they will do anything they can to protect Kinoko in the name of Galaxy, making every moment with them precious and unpredictable.

Azure †

Azure was a blue starsprite that got mauled by a voidwraith in the ‘purpose of a starsprite’ web-comic, which demonstrated how the starsprites’ purpose is to sacrifice themselves for Kinoko.
