Faunicorn

Faunicorns are rare, magical beings native to the planet Arboreum.

Their world is one of lush enchanted forests and blooming gardens, all lovingly tended by the Fairy Queen herself.

Biology and appearance

Faunicorns possess humanoid torsos with claw like hands, whilst their legs resemble those of horses, with cloven hooves. They have a horns on their foreheads that shine faintly, and which are used to channel magic. Their shimmering manes flow from head to tail, often braided with flowers, charms, and threads of magic, and they have large, fluffy wings on their backs which enable them to fly. Their eyes are bright and shiny, and they have long and pointed ears, similar to those of elves. They come in many colours, and often wear silks and other, forest-made accessories.

Society and culture

Faunicorns are playful, nature-loving, and social creatures, highly curious about the mysteries of Arboreum and its ancient, enchanted forests. They love music and dancing under the moonlight, and most carry their lyras around, crafted from enchanted trees and strung with their own magical hair. When played, these instruments create melodies that strengthen the forest by encouraging plant growth, and even soothing restless woodland spirits. The Fairy Queen herself takes great pleasure in listening to their music, blessing the land and protecting it as long as the songs continue.

Their greatest blessing is also their deepest curse, however, for their blood is a substance of highly magical properties that can heal any wound, cure disease, and grant unnaturally long life to mortals who consume it. For this reason, faunicorns have long been hunted, and their numbers have dwindled.

History

Faunicorns were once plentiful, but now they are nearly extinct, for many covet their blood for its life-extending properties. It is even whispered that Necronyx, the leader of the Order of the Event Horizon, has achieved his own unnaturally long life through the consumption of faunicorn blood, having his Event Horizon cultists hunt them down and sacrifice them in the name of the Devourer. The Order of the Green Veil are sworn to protect them, but despite their efforts the slayings have not stopped, and now there are few faunicorns left in the galaxy.

Strengths

Faunicorns channel powerful magic through their horns, allowing them to shape nature, and heal or defend themselves when necessary. Their songs carry enchanting effects that can influence nature and calm spirits. Their wings allow them to soar gracefully through the skies. Despite their small size, they are remarkably strong and agile. They can also draw magic from others, restoring their own power during battle.

Weaknesses

Using their powers consumes their energy quickly, leaving them fatigued. Their rare blood makes them a constant target for hunters, putting them in danger. Faunicorns are inherently peaceful, and avoid conflict unless absolutely forced to fight, relying on cleverness and magic rather than brute force. Additionally, their magic can become unpredictable when their emotions run high, sometimes causing unintended effects that can leave them or others vulnerable.
