Cattle

Cows are a species of domesticated, mammalian livestock that originate from Earth, where they were raised primarily for milk, beef, and leather. Once numerous, they are now legends out in the wider Milky Way Galaxy.

Biology and appearance

Once a common species on Earth, cattle are now nothing more than a legend. It is said that, before humanity began exploring space, these creatures were driven to extinction due to relentless abductions by extraterrestrials. Some believe the aliens had a mysterious purpose for them, but whatever the reason, cows disappeared from history, leaving only stories behind.

Kinoko learns about cattle when visiting the Star Lounge in Starlight City, where there is a single arcade cabinet for a game called Bovine Excision. It’s through Bovine Excision that he learns about Moonie, the game’s protagonist, a once-beloved green alien cow who was the star of a video game and cartoon franchise on planet Earth. Despite not being real, Moonie is the only known cow left in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Role in Star Heretic

Cattle do not have much of a role in Star Heretic, besides serving as a slot in the codex for tutorial purposes.

Kinoko, however, loves Moonie and the Bovine Excision series, and they are his current obsession. He enjoys losing himself in the world of Moonie whenever he visits the Star Lounge, and he likes collecting the merchandise. Cows are his favorite animal, though it’s sadly very unlikely that he will ever meet one in person.
