2D Environment Artist
Cult of Galaxy, a small independent UK-based studio, is looking to build an ongoing relationship with a talented 2D environment artist. You’ll work on a freelance basis alongside Chel, our Creative Director, helping to bring the vibrant worlds of Star Heretic to life.
Star Heretic is a 2D space-fantasy platformer in the metroidvania style, set across multiple planets. Each world features distinct, atmospheric zones, from lush jungles and ancient caves to underwater ruins. We’re looking for an artist who can help us to create immersive, memorable environments for players to explore.
This is a paid freelance role. You set your own rates per piece of work offered.
Requirements
To be considered for the position of freelance 2D environment artist, you will need:
- A portfolio demonstrating proven experience in 2D environment art, with at least several relevant projects.
- Strong artistic ability and design skills with an eye for detail.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Strong communication skills.
- A passion for games and the desire to put your stamp on an exciting new project.
A particularly strong application would also benefit from:
- Prior experience of working in video games.
- Ability to communicate over Discord.
All work submitted must be entirely your own creation. Use of AI-generated content or work created by others will not be accepted.
Additionally, you must be 18+ and legally able to sign contracts under your full legal name. For verification purposes, you must be able to provide government-issued ID (e.g. passport or driving license) matching the name on your contracts.
